Now that you’ve seen the kitchen reveal, you know that there are a ton of elements that we still need to figure out. We’ve come a long way, but our vision’s not quite there yet. So, we thought we’d show you what we have planned to finish out our kitchen update.
Certain things we REALLY need to do (like framing the windows and actually getting that damn window installed!) Some of these items like the table and doors we actually plan on making ourselves, but we’re going to use these are inspiration! Check our our mood board and explanations below:
Kitchen Update Mood Board Details:
Gold Lantern Pendant – We LOVE the sight lines on this pendant light because it gives you an unobstructed view from one side of the house to the other. We’re slightly worried they’re going to be too tall, even if we hang in close to the ceiling so we’ll have to plan around with the dimensions to see if they’ll work. Also getting the gold color right on these is going to be key.
Glass Pendant Light – This is a great backup for us if the first option doesn’t work. Plus, the price is right where we want to be. My only hesitation with glass is it needs to be cleaned occasionally. It’s not a big deal, but something to consider.
Wood Doors – The pantry doors are currently going to be a frosted glass wood door to bring brown to that side of the kitchen. Painting them black is also an option. Since we’re making them, we’re pretty versatile at this stage. Unfortunately wood doors have been out of stock for over a year so hopefully we’ll be able to get started on these soon.
Kitchen Rug – We’ve had this rug picked out before the cabinets were even delivered. It brings in the beautiful sage but will also tie in the gold and black from the rest of the room. As a bonus, it’s machine washable making it the perfect kitchen rug.
Backsplash Tile – Did you know there are about a million white subway tiles? We’ve narrowed it down to our top 4 so now we just need to order it and get it installed! Ideally we’re looking for a tile that has artisanal vibes and a modest price.
Black Table – Since we didn’t have the width for an island, we need a narrow table to help break up the space. We love the look of this table and will use it as inspiration when we make one similar, but with different dimensions to fit our space. This table will be used for everything from cooking prep to party staging.
Black Hanging Planter – with our window coming in, we’re adding some green into the space with fun hanging accent plants! We’ll also be bringing in as many herbs as possible.
These last few items on our mood board will all take some time to get through and if we’re being honest, we are not really in a rush. We’ve got a ton of other projects to do (I’m looking at you Master Bathroom) and now that the kitchen is modern and functional, we are in a much better place than we have been in the last year. I can’t even tell you what a relief it is to be talking about finishes rather than the enormity of the full renovation! It will be nice though to get a room completely finished… eventually!
What do you guys think? Anything we should add to the kitchen update?
